“We don’t have to do it all alone. We were never meant to.” -Brené Brown
Welcome
Do you feel stuck in old patterns or struggle to feel present and connect with your body? We all carry unresolved experiences that shape our daily function and have "parts" of ourselves that feel hard to manage. My work is dedicated to developing a deeper understanding of these patterns, parts, and past experiences. We'll explore how these dynamics are held not just in the mind, but also physically in the body, so you can move forward with greater coping and healing. If you are ready to address anxiety, loneliness, grief, people-pleasing, or the effects of trauma and relationship ruptures, let's begin this journey together.
I believe you possess unique knowledge and skills from your lived experience. Knowing that one model doesn't fit all in trauma work, I create a safe, empathic, and collaborative space. My goal is to help you bring awareness to your existing resources, identify what's important now, and leverage them to overcome challenges and achieve your goals.
It takes courage to consider therapy, and I truly understand that starting can feel daunting. My primary goal is always to build a trusting, safe, and collaborative relationship where you feel heard and understood. Together, we will embark on a supportive journey of self-discovery, gently uncovering the innate strength and resilience that is within you.
About Me
Melanie Wuytenburg, MSW, RSW / Psychotherapist
I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in the province of Ontario, with a Master of Social Work (MSW) from King’s University College through Western University (2014). I have been dedicated to the mental health field for over fifteen years, practicing psychotherapy with children, youth, and adults in a variety of roles. It was through my collective professional and personal experience that I became passionate about wanting to provide trauma-informed counselling to assist individuals in being able to understand and make sense of their lived experience while moving towards personal growth.
In my private practice, I offer individual therapy to children, youth and adults. Individuals seek out my support for anxiety, burnout, depression, suicidal ideation, loneliness, disconnect from who they are, single incidents of trauma and/or childhood trauma (PTSD and C-PSTD), relationship ruptures, adoption-related issues, as well as grief and loss.
My practice is heavily informed by frameworks that prioritize compassion, client agency, and context:
Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST)
Mindfulness & Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) techniques
Attachment Theory
Feminist, Anti-Oppressive, and Intersectional Frameworks
Narrative Therapy
Providing you with a warm space to connect
Whether you prefer meeting in person in London, Ontario, or accessing care from anywhere in the province, I offer both. You will be met with a private, warm environment and supportive care in every session, guaranteeing ease and comfort.

FAQs

It's understandable if reaching out for therapy feels intimidating or even confusing. If you are reading this, you are likely ready to embark on a new journey—one focused on change. People seek therapy for many reasons, but the common thread is a desire to gain new skills and develop fresh insights into patterns of behaviour or thought that no longer serve them.

In the first therapy session, we will discuss confidentially and expectations for counselling, i.e. frequency of sessions, as well as therapeutic goals. The therapeutic goals are our measuring tools to check in with from time to time to ensure that we are meeting your identified needs. Since our daily lives are fluid and change is inevitable, we will realign our therapeutic goals when needed.
With respect to the frequency of sessions, this depends on your preference as well as the focus of your therapeutic goals. Your preference may be to meet weekly or biweekly; this will be explored during the first session. Some therapeutic goals require long-term counselling while other therapeutic goals can be met in a shorter length of time. However, the decision to pause or stop therapy is your decision to make at any point.
-
During the initial consultation or session, we will discuss what therapy approach would best meet your therapeutic goals and the needs of your current lived experience. While I practice from an eclectic approach in meeting the client and where they are in their life, all of the practices I utilize are evidence-based. This means there have been studies demonstrating the effectiveness of a specific intervention for a presented challenge.

Extensive research supports the impact of a safe, trusting, and supportive therapeutic relationship (the "therapeutic alliance") on positive client outcomes. My goal is to always approach our sessions with openness, genuineness, and empathy, creating this vital foundation for your successful growth.
